VIPER ANKLE BITERS - AGE 5 AND UNDER TINY Non-Travel Team
Ankle Biters are a competition squad for those just beginning their cheerleading careers. This squad is comprised of kids ages 5 and under.
They practice just like the rest of the competition squads do. They work on stunting, tumbling, dance, cheer motions and jumps - the fundamentals of cheerleading. Most youth or little league teams do not allow kids to cheer until the age of 8, but we decided that to build strong teams we needed to build a strong foundation. So, in order to accomplish that, we started the Ankle Biter team to get them started earlier. These will eventually be your Pee Wee and Youth kids. The Ankle Biters team was started in 2001. They go to about 5-6 competitions locally. They are a non-travel team and may attend a Regional and/or National Competition. Their 1st National competition was in the spring of 2002 at the American Cheerpower Nationals in Columbus, OH. and they placed 2nd in their division! It was a great experience for them and they had a lot of fun. They have also marched in the New Cumberland Halloween and the New Cumberland Memorial Day Parades.
VIPER TERROR AGE 8 AND UNDER MINI Non-Travel Team

This team is comprised of girls ages 8 and under. The Non Traveling part means exactly that. The Mini Non Travel team only practices one day per week. Due to the less demanding practice times, we have a lot of interest from cheerleaders who also cheer for their youth program teams.
The Non Traveling teams tryout in May just like the travel teams. After tryouts, they start practicing in June and have a full competition season thru May. They will compete at many local competitions and at least one National Competition.
Some people ask, Is the Non Travel team the B team? Not even close. The kids who try out for any of our teams are required to learn a short dance, a cheer, demonstrate jumps and stunting ability. The only difference in the Non Traveling teams is that tumbling is not required. Many of the kids who choose Non Travel do tumble. They may have decided to cheer for the Non Traveling team because of time constraints with other commitments, or their parents do not want the expense of all the traveling but still want their child to be able to be part of an allstar team. With the start of the Non Travel teams, we have been able to offer the allstar experience to more kids at a reduced cost, less practice time commitment and there are no tumbling requirements.
