Classes - 1 to 9 of 9

iconBeginner Tumbling

Beginner tumbling class is designed to teach the basic beginner skills necessary for tumbling.

In this class you will learn:

·        Cartwheels

·        Roundoff

·        Handstands

·        Backbends

·        Front and back rolls

·        Back walkovers

·        Handstand forward rolls

·        Front handsprings

·        Back handsprings

We introduce basic stretching techniques, strength drills, pushing and jumping techniques, running drills, and other basic tumbling drills that will help to develop other skills.

Our beginning tumbling classes are not specifically broken down by age.  However, we do attempt to keep kids of a certain age group in the same classes.

iconIntermediate Tumbling

Once you've mastered the skills required for beginning tumbling, or if you already have basic tumbling skills, we offer intermediate tumbling.  This class is designed to take students who have basic skills and progress them to a skill level that will enable them to meet and exceed the skill requirements for most cheerleading squad tryouts.

It is required that you have a minimum of a standing backhandspring and a roundoff backhandspring unassisted to join this class.  You may already have these skills from another cheerleading or tumbling program without having to take our beginning tumbling class.

In this class you will work:

·        Roundoff backhandspring

·        Roundoff multiple backhandsprings

·        Roundoff tuck

·        Roundoff handspring tuck

·        Multiple standing handsprings

·        Standing tucks

We will also put to work your front handspring by using that skill in connection with roundoff backhandspring and many other connections and combinations of the skills previously listed.   Of course, as these skills are acquired, we will progress each individual further.

iconAdvanced Tumbling

At The Viper P.I.T., Inc. we offer advanced tumbling class for those tumblers working on higher level tumbling skills. You must have a standing back handspring and a round-off back handspring tuck to take this class.

In the advanced tumbling class, participants will be working on the following skills:

·        Layouts

·        Full twists

·        Combination passes

·        Standing tuck

·        Standing hand spring tuck

·        Hand spring layout

Participants will also work front tumbling skills to include front hand spring thru to round-off hand spring layout etc. Front punches, standing fulls and jump tumbling sequences will also be included in teaching material.

iconCheer Tumbling

Cheer tumbling is meant for cheerleaders who already have beginning tumbling skills.  The class is structured as more of an open gym with more students than our other classes, and the emphasis is placed on skills that are needed in cheers and competition routines.

Cheerleaders who want to participate in cheer tumbling class need to have a standing back hand spring and a roundoff back hand spring. If you’re an inexperienced tumbler, you need to take our beginning tumbling class before moving up into our cheer tumbling class.

Cheer tumbling focuses on skills needed strictly for cheerleading.  We work on round offs, front and back handsprings and tumbling passes.  While some cheerleaders may be able to work on some more advanced skills in this class, these cheerleaders may want to consider taking intermediate tumbling or advanced tumbling classes.

An open gym style class is a little larger than our other classes.  Typically our tumbling classes are kept to a 10-1 student to instructor ratio.  In an open gym style class, we increase the number of students to around a 15-1 ratio.  This class is a little faster paced with more emphasis on increased repetition. Cheerleaders are given the opportunity to throw more passes during the class time than is possible with a traditional style class.  It’s perfect for cheerleaders who have the basic skills and just need the practice time to work the skills without as much individualized instruction.

iconCo-ed Partner Stunt Class

This class is intended for young men and women who are currently in high school and who plan on attending college and/or cheerleaders who are interested in learning coed style stunting.

The objective of the class is to give high school cheerleaders an opportunity to learn the same stunts that college cheerleaders are doing.  If you know how to do these stunts, it will give you a leg up when you get to college tryouts.

A number of different skills are necessary in college stunts, but the majority of them fall into one of two categories: toss stunts and walk-in stunts. With that said, the opportunity will be available to learn many of the stunts that college cheerleaders perform.  Included among these are:

  • Toss Chair
  • Toss to Hands
  • Toss to Extension
  • Walk-in Hands
  • Walk-in to Extension
  • Liberty
  • High Torch
  • Cupie
  • Heel Stretch

Class participants are taught the basics of the toss prep and the walk-in movement.  Bases are taught proper throwing technique, walk-in hand position, use of legs in both movements, and how to use technique rather than strength to hold stunts.

Flyers are taught how to toss-prep from a flyers perspective and the flyer's half of the walk-in.  Use of the base's wrists and shoulders, proper back position, and how to "stay tight" are all emphasized.

iconOpen Gym

Open gym is a time where kids who already have tumbling skills can come in to the gym and work them. There are 3 open gyms currently offered during the week:

·        Tuesday 4:30-6pm

·        Thursday 4:30-6pm

·        Saturday 11am-1pm
unless teams away at a competition.

There are usually 2 staff members available during Open gym to spot when and if needed. These times are not designed for the beginner tumblers. These times are not instructed classes. So, if you are a beginner, you should look into taking a beginner tumbling class where you can gain the basic skills.

iconPrivate Lessons & Semi-Private Lessons

  Private Lessons

Private lessons are a “one on one” class with you and one of our staff.  Private lessons are specifically for gaining a skill.  Just about have your Full???  Almost landing that standing tuck???  If not, then you may want to consider scheduling a private lesson.

** Private Lessons are not designed for beginner tumblers **

Call for available times.  Private lessons must be paid for in advance to schedule times.

Semi-Private Lessons

Semi Private Lessons are like a private lesson only with 2 to 3 people in the class. Semi Private Lessons are designed for those participants who are working a specific skill and just need a little one on one time to acquire that skill.

We do recommend that any one who is taking a semi private lesson be sure that all participants are at approximately the same skill level with each other. This will ensure that all will get equal attention and time with the instructor. Please take this into consideration when scheduling semi private lessons.

** Semi Private Lessons are not designed for beginner tumblers **

Call for available times. Semi-Private lessons must be paid for in advance to schedule times.

Team Tumbling classes are 1 hour a week, or if needed, we can cater to your needs for a longer class or more than once a week at an additional cost.

iconPre-School Tumbling

These classes are designed to introduce the basic tumbling skills to kids ages 6 and under.  We teach it like a beginner tumbling class with some extra fun added to encourage them to learn the beginning skills with a twist of “play time” included.

In Pre-School Tumbling these are some of the skills they will learn:

  • Forward rolls
  • Backward rolls
  • Cartwheels
  • Handstands
  • Bridges

We will also introduce them to some basic stretching techniques and warm ups, jumping drills, balance skills, how to follow directions and work and play with other kids.

All skills and drills will be enhanced with a young child in mind.
